Third Pregnancy Check-Up - Week 32
The third pregnancy check-up takes place at the doctor’s office. This is the last check-up before the birth, so the focus will often be on discussing expectations for the delivery and the period after birth. For most women, pregnancy starts to feel more difficult around week 32, and various problems may arise, such as fatigue, pelvic pain, or swelling in the legs and arms.
Once again, the doctor will focus on detecting potential health issues like preeclampsia (pregnancy-induced hypertension) and gestational diabetes. Additionally, the doctor will check the baby's position, the amount of amniotic fluid, and estimate the baby's size.
Vaccination for Pregnant Women – Week 25-32
Whooping Cough Vaccination:
Whooping cough can be a serious and potentially life-threatening disease for newborns, especially before they are old enough to be vaccinated themselves. Vaccinating pregnant women against whooping cough protects the newborn in the first few months of life. Therefore, the Health Authority recommends that pregnant women receive a whooping cough vaccination in the second or third trimester from their general practitioner.
RS Virus (Respiratory Syncytial Virus):
RS virus can also be a serious condition in very young children. Vaccination of pregnant women against RS virus protects the infant against RS virus in the first months of life. Vaccination against RS virus is recommended for pregnant women who are due in July through March (the vaccine is given from May through January). Vaccination is recommended in week 32 of pregnancy at the planned pregnancy check-up with your doctor or at another contact in the 3rd trimester. There must be a minimum interval of 2 weeks between the whooping cough and RS virus vaccines.
Influenza Vaccination:
Pregnant women may have a slightly increased risk of severe illness from influenza. For this reason, vaccination against influenza is recommended during the autumn and winter seasons for all pregnant women in the second and third trimesters. When you are vaccinated during pregnancy, your baby will also be automatically protected in the early days after birth.
This vaccination should be ordered through vacciner.dk.
